Egypt can be especially interesting to us because many of the coins of Egypt have been brought home by our service personnel during WWI and WW2.  These are the coins of the late Ottoman Empire, followed by the kings of Egypt – to Farouk.  The coins of WWI may also include the British occupation issue of 1916-1917 that carry the H mintmark of the Heaton Mint in Birmingham.  Therefore collecting these returned coins gives us a physical connection to our own armed forces fighting against the Turks in WWI and against the forces of fascism in WW2.  Once it is known how these coins came to NZ, this can not only heighten their value as numismatic items ~ but also as mementoes of our forces and those who supported them.   Johnny
