The first Roman Emperor, Augustus reigned from 27 BC until his death AD 14. Formerly known as Octavian, he defeated Marc Antony and Cleopatra at the Battle of Actium in 31 BC before he became emperor. Enlarging the Roman Empire, he reformed Roman taxation and restored the coinage, especially the silver denarius, to the quality of those of the earlier Roman Republic. These are the real original coins of Augustus.
